A social innovator/entrepreneur is a pragmatic visionary who identifies social problems and uses entrepreneurial strategies to create and manage an initiative for social change. Whether it's a new invention, a different approach or creative use of technology, a social entrepreneur measures success in terms of systemic and sustainable social change — not on profit margins and rates of return. Social entrepreneurs collaborate with non-profits and citizen groups, and also in the private and governmental sectors.
They combine the characteristics of Richard Branson and Mother Teresa.
